The National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine announces with deep sadness the passing of Academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine Serhiy Maksymenko, Director of the G.S. Kostyuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, prominent Ukrainian psychologist and theorist of the ontology of personality.
Serhiy Dmytrovych Maksymenko is a full member (academician) of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine (elected on December 20, 1995), Doctor of Sciences in Psychology, Professor, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine. For a long time he headed the G.S. Kostyuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of EDucational Sciences of Ukraine. Member of numerous international organizations – International Council of Psychologists (USA), European Academy of Natural Sciences (Hanover, Germany), International Academy of Natural History (European Union), European Academy of Natural History (Edinburgh, Great Britain), Academic Community of the Publishing House “Academy of Natural History” (Neu-Isenburg, Germany), member of the Scientific Consulting Group of the European Scientific Industrial Consortium (Scotland, Great Britain), President from Ukraine of the Global Union of Scientists for Peace.
S. D. Maksymenko was born on December 15, 1941, in the village of Zapruddya, Rokytne district, Kyiv region. Graduated from the Kyiv State Pedagogical Institute (1965), postgraduate studies at this Institute (1973).
Specialist in the field of pedagogical psychology, personality psychology, founder of the Ukrainian scientific school of genetic psychology, known for scientific developments in theoretical and methodological problems of developmental education, methodological reflection of developmental problems in psychology, experimental and genetic methods of age and pedagogical psychology, scientific substantiation of the creation and implementation of a system of training specialists for the health care sector.
The developed formative and diagnostic methods are included in the European Bank of Research Procedures for Longitudinal Studies at the Max Planck Institute (Munich). He deals with the problems of psychological assistance to victims of war. Initiator of the creation of the specialty "medical psychology" in the field of knowledge "Healthcare".
Author of the first textbook in Ukraine "Personality Psychology" and textbooks for higher education institutions "General Psychology" (four reprints in Ukrainian, seven in English), as well as "Experimental Psychology", "Differential Psychology", "Genetic Psychology", "Medical Psychology", "Pathopsychology" and others. Author and co-author of over 800 scientific works, including 45 monographs, 50 textbooks for students of higher education institutions, 40 textbooks and 35 articles in publications included in the Scopus and WoS databases. Hirsch index (Google Scholar) is 48.
He has prepared over 100 doctors of science and 250 candidates of science.
Chairman of the specialized academic council for the defence of doctoral dissertations at the G.S. Kostyuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. Member of the editorial boards of a number of foreign and Ukrainian scientific publications, including "Problems of Modern Psychology", "Psychological Journal", "Organizational Psychology. Economic Psychology", etc.
Awarded the Orders "For Merit" of the III, II and I degrees, "Badge of Honour", honorary diplomas of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, medals of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine "Ushinsky K.D.", "Hryhorii Skovoroda", "Volodymyr Monomakh", the medal "For Conscientious Work", the Albert Schweitzer medal of the European Academy of Natural Sciences. Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the Field of Science and Technology.
The National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Serhiy Dmytrovych.
