There were
many discussions regarding the adoption of the State Budget 2016. Branch National
Academies were left main funds managers. But funding was reduced (for NAES -
17.2%). How did it affect the work of the Academy?
This reduction has negatively affected the
work of the Institution, because it was made for the second year in a row. Last
year we had to reduce about four hundred workers, this year already dismissed
about the same. The Academy remained about seven hundred researchers. We have
kept the basic institutions and cut only the Lviv Scientific and Practical Center
of Vocational Education. We are forced to terminate early a number of studies,
a part of them we could not start.
I’m surprised
of the attitude towards science in general. I recall when Ukrainian People′s
Republic to be created, the Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi began with the opening of
the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, foreseeing the future of the country to be closely associated with science. It was
then farsightedly almost a hundred years ago. Today, in modern terms of
civilization development it’s not impossible to imagine a successful country
that would not develop the scientific sector. Incidentally, the number of
scientists in Ukraine per thousand of population is the lowest in Europe.
