On May 14, a meeting of Academician Vasyl Kremen, the President of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, with Mr. Andreas Klaus Reinhold Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Foreign Member of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, was held.

The meeting was attended by Volodymyr Lugovyi, the First Vice-President, Acting Academic Secretary of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Oleg Topuzov, the Vice-President, Director of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Oleksandr Liashenko, Academician-Secretary of the Department of General Secondary Education and Digitalization of Educational Systems and Paraska Dotsenko, Deputy Head of the Department of Scientific and Management Personnel and International Scientific Relations of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.

The topical issues on further development of the national education in Ukraine, namely general secondary education were discussed at the meeting.

Andreas K. R. Schleicher together with the leadership of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine visited the Scientific and Information Centre of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, where he got acquainted in more detail with the structure of the Academy, the main areas of its activity in wartime conditions, and the unique achievements of Ukrainian scientists and educators over the years of the existence of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.

In the Presidium meeting hall of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Mr. Andreas K. R. Schleicher spoke and made a short presentation on “Education for the Future” to the scientists - representatives of all scientific institutions of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. The audience listened with great interest to the views of the speaker on general secondary education, socio-emotional aspects in education, and teacher training.

The civic position in supporting Ukraine and the Ukrainian educational community, in particular in introducing effective technologies to identify, prevent and eliminate educational losses of Ukrainian schoolchildren suffering from Russian military aggression, arouses admiration, high appreciation and deep respect.

Considering the significant contribution to the development of educational policy and practice in many countries of the world, in particular in Ukraine, for supporting and assisting Ukraine and the Ukrainian educational community during the war, the resolution of the General Meeting of February 11, 2025 unanimously approved the election of Mr. Andreas K. R. Schleicher as a Foreign member of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, the Department of General Secondary Education and Digitalization of Educational Systems.
