A new book by academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine Georgy Filipchuk has been published

A new book by Georgy Filipchuk, Doctor of Sciences in Pedagogy, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Honorary Doctor of the Ivan Zyazyun Institute of Pedagogical Education and Adult Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, “Indomitability of Spirit” (Kyiv – Chernivtsi: Publishing House “Bukrek”, 2024. 336 p. ISBN978-966-997-254-5) has recently appeared in the cultural field of Ukraine.

The book is a continuation of the two-volume series “On the Eve of “24”: Worldview of Time” and ““...24”: Identity, Statehood in the Dimension of War”. They highlight one of the most dramatic, tragic and at the same time heroic themes in the existence of the Ukrainian people, its age-old struggle with the existential enemy – Muscovy.

Although the period of creation of the work covers only the second half of 2023, its matrix contains events, facts, phenomena, processes, personalities, and the creative life of people and nations that go far beyond the boundaries of a specific time. From the point of view of national, universal human values, the actions of states, nations, and their leaders throughout historical eras are analysed.

Particular attention is paid to those valuable ideas, ideals, and guidelines created by prominent Ukrainian figures, creators, artists, and national awakeners of the Spirit, who in timelessness have always served as a reliable support for our freedom, dignity, identity, and statehood.

As stated in the preface, the third book is a “continuation of the already published two-volume tragic chronicle, woven from fixed fragments of disturbing realities that have completely exposed the aching human nerve, which sensitively perceives events, facts, people, man-made disasters, while searching for at least some (even irrational) hope for the beyond and so desired “peace”. Although the entire conscious world, primarily Ukrainians, are aware of its obscurity, illusory nature and transience, when on the other side stands a rushist Muscovy, awash with human blood, impunity (?!), girded crosswise with belts of lies, cynicism, robbery and intolerance to the “other”. A kind of misanthropic ideology and practice of “nuclear Orthodoxy”.

The popular science publication consists of a Preface and two parts – I. Facebook Notes of Wartime (2023) and II. Ukrainian Idea Against the “Unpunished Cannibalism” of Muscovy. It is noteworthy that the modernity, expressed through posts on the social network Facebook, is closely intertwined with national history, and the heroes of today appear simultaneously with historical figures. And this gives a special pattern to the national identity, presented in this way in the author’s interpretation of Georgy Filipchuk.

With the author’s inherent thirst for justice and the development of the Ukrainian state, he does not bypass the problems of education, parliamentary governance, the preservation of cultural values, the embodiment of a civic position, the problems of national memory, the understanding of spirituality and worldview – nothing that would concern the establishment of a free Ukrainian nation and an independent Ukraine.

According to our calculations, the Index of Names of this edition contains 476 items: from figures of Antiquity to modern figures. A special place is occupied by outstanding Ukrainians - thinkers, historians, figures of science and culture, which confirms the continuity of the national tradition embodied in the title of the book. And this mental unity is also embodied in the artistic design of the cover of the edition, in particular the use of the typeface Rutenia_Nezalezhna.

The book, like the previous two-volume set, is worthy of attention, and not only of scientists, but also of a wide circle of the public.
